Blog 8: ENA and the Aesthetic of Early Internet

Some say that everything comes back into fashion eventually, and looking at things from pants to architecture, it does seem as if there is some rotation of stylistic trends over time. Two of my favorite examples of this phenomenon are Vaporwave and Outrun. Aurally and visually, these two aesthetics explore the styles ideas of technology from the 90's and 80's respectively.

Animator Joel G. has created an interesting metaverse inspired series of animated shorts which draws heavily from Vaporwave in regard to visual style. The animations follow ENA, a seemingly digital sentient being, in their lighthearted yet uncanny adventures through a virtual world.
